With the arrival of the Vernal Equinox comes the urge to get our Spring cleaning done. It is important to combine both physical and metaphysical cleansing so that your home and its energy is truly clean. These methods can be used year round to ensure your home's energetic aura remains clear. However, if you are doing the cleaning on the actual Equinox, you get the added benefit of being able to utilize the energy for bringing balance into the home.

Yes, your home has its own aura and spirit. All the materials used to create it- stone, wood, and metal, have their own energetic signatures, but they come together in harmony to create the structure. The surrounding land also plays its part because these materials begin to absorb energy from the land, producing a unique vibration all its own that creates the spirit of your home. If no one lived in the house, it might be able to maintain its aura without any intervention but since you reside there, along with any other beings you might cohabitate with as well as any visitors stopping by, it needs your help. If you haven’t yet done so, take some time to get to know the spirit of the home. This will open a communication pathway so that you are always aware of what your abode needs.
Declutter
I would suggest the first order of business is to declutter. This means getting rid of anything that is broken or no longer useful. Decluttering also includes letting go of clothing that you no longer want. Whether your style has changed, the item no longer fits or you’re simply tired of it, they

need to go. Household items and clothing in good shape can be donated to a local thrift store or charity. You can also choose to donate clothing to a shelter as they are always in need. Any broken items should be discarded. It’s important to thank any objects you are getting rid of, whether into the rubbish bin or to a charity, for their service and usefulness while they were yours. This allows for a true energetic release of the item along with the physical.
Deep Cleaning
Energetic cleansing should also be done top to bottom, back to front. It’s good to start with any surface cleaning first. This is to ensure that dust and whatnot on cabinets, shelving, etc. is not discarded onto a clean floor. So, beginning at the back of the home, start at the highest level and work your way down. Don’t forget ceiling fans if you have them as well as HVAC airflow vents.

You can add rose quartz to your all purpose cleaner to bring in love.
Add a sprig of rosemary to your window wash solution for cleansing and protection, making sure you do inside and out.
Wipe down any spouts that bring water into the home with a solution that includes rosemary or garden sage for cleansing and protection then bless them once you’re done.
Add a sprig of mint to a cleaning solution to wipe down your front door to bring prosperity into the home.
Once you’re done with the surfaces, you should turn your attention to the floors.
Use dried garden sage ground into salt to sprinkle over the floors for deep cleansing and protection. Sweep or vacuum, remembering to go from the back to the front and out the front door. The debris will need to then be discarded off your property. Placing it in the trash is fine.
Add orange peel or essential oil to your mop water to bring in joy, happiness, and vibrancy.
Other miscellaneous areas to think about that would be highly beneficial to you are your kitchenware as well as your drapery and bed linens.
Use dried echinacea or essential oil in the water to wash your kitchen items such as cookware, dishes, and cutlery then bless them for health and wellness. You can easily add a drop of the essential oil to the dishwasher as well.
You can also keep sachets of echinacea, St. John’s Wort, turmeric, and ginger in the kitchen to actively promote health and wellness.
Baking soda has energetic properties for cleansing, protection, and warding so add it to
your wash. This is especially helpful for curtains and may even give protection against astral travel or vulnerability while you sleep to your bed linens.

General Home Energy Cleanse
When you have completed the deep cleaning, you can then give your home an overall energetic cleansing. You can do this by:
Cleansing, charging, and resetting your home protection crystal grid. *Note- if you add smoky quartz to your grid, it will never need to be cleansed again because this crystal has the ability to not only repel negative energy, but transmute it as well. This allows the smoky quartz to keep all of the other crystals clear of negative energies as well.
Give your home a sound bath using drumming, a rattle, or singing bowls to break up and clear any heavy energy that might remain in the home. Remember to move widdershins
through the home if possible or back to front. Then, move deosil or front to back to call in positive energy and raise the overall vibration.
You can create a room spray using distilled water, chamomile, lavender, and amethyst for calming vibes. You can use dried herbs or essential oils for this.
Magickal Tools
You will also want to give your magickal tools a good cleansing as well. Start with your altar and clear away an incense ash or items that are no longer part of a working such as spell bottles or ritual remains. I tend to set items on my altar that need to be cleansed as well. If you have an altar cloth, take it outside and give it a good shake or three.
Using dried mugwort and distilled water, you can cleanse all of your magickal tools and altar space while providing protection and stabilizing their magick, but also keeping the link open to higher realms/ Spirit.
For items that cannot be cleansed with water, use smoke. This can be incense or an herb bundle of dried garden sage or rosemary.
If your Book of Shadows does not have a book blessing, now is a good time to create one. This provides it with protection.
Don’t forget yourself! You are your most magickal tool! You can also use smoke to cleanse your aura or since you’ve been cleaning all day, step into the shower and wash it all away. You can make a rosemary salt scrub to use in the shower as well.

Spring is all about new beginnings. Giving your home a good physical and energetic scrubbing ensures a fresh start for the season. I suggest a deep cleansing like this with each seasonal change. You can do monthly maintenance utilizing smoke cleansing or by spritzing Florida Water around the home. Also, do a quick cleanse if you’ve had a guest stay with you, a party with multiple attendees, or any major arguments within the dwelling. Remember, the key to keeping your home’s energy in balance and its spirit happy is to speak to it on a regular basis. This will head off any major energetic disturbances. Happy home, happy residents!
Happy Spring Cleaning!
